Coordinator of Mental Health and OHS Programs

This position requires the ability to travel throughout British Columbia, and the ability to work undefined hours, which may include evenings and weekends.

Reporting to the Executive Director and Directors, the Coordinator is responsible for the following:

Coordinator Base Job Duties

  • Facilitation of mental health and Provincial and Federal OHS related courses.
  • Development of workshop material and course content that integrate the principles of participatory adult learning and popular education principles.
  • Program evaluation.
  • Facilitation/presentation evaluation.
  • Program outreach and consultation.
  • Scheduling as required.

Coordinator Base Qualifications

  • Possess a high level of communication, collaboration, and organizational skills.
  • Knowledge and experience with occupational health and safety laws, policies and regulations.
  • Experience and ability facilitating OH&S course content for both Provincially and Federally regulated workplaces.
  • Have an in-depth understanding of the labour movement structures and processes.
  • Ability to apply adult education principles.
  • Experience delivering occupational health and safety presentations, including preventing psychological injury, to affiliated unions, associations, and conferences.
  • Ability to work with various technologies that support facilitation.

Coordinator of Mental Health Programs – Stream Qualifications

  • Certification from the Mental Health Commission of Canada, to deliver mental health first aid (e.g. MHFA Basic, MHFA Standard Virtual, and/or MHFA Standard Face-to-Face) as regulated by the Commission.
  • Experience and familiarity with mental health in the workplace, including related training and education.

Coordinator of OHS Programs – Stream Qualifications

  • Direct experience in labour education is considered an asset.
  • Experienced and skilled in training methodology that comply with regulatory guidelines and organizational policies.
  • Ability to conduct project-related research as required.

Hours and Location

This is a full-time position with undefined hours, which can include some evenings and weekends.

The position location is at the Burnaby office. Full or part time remote work arrangements are optional and subject to approval. Ability to work from the BCFED office in Burnaby, and to travel to events and meetings across BC, is essential.

Salary and Benefits

The salary and benefits for this Coordinator position are outlined in the BCFED – USW Collective Agreement (December 1, 2020 – November 30, 2023). The base wages are currently at $3,863.55 bi-weekly.
