BCFED welcomes public inquiry into Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women and Girls

December 8, 2015 | News Release

Vancouver – The BC Federation of Labour is welcoming news that phase one of a national inquiry into Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women and Girls is being launched by the federal government.

“This inquiry is long over-due. The BC Federation of Labour has added our voice to the call for a national inquiry for many years,” said Irene Lanzinger, President of the BCFED. “I am encouraged that our new federal government has acted quickly on this critical issue.”

“It is vital that the government be inclusive and collaborative, and ensure that stakeholders have a role in both phases of the inquiry” said Lanzinger. “This inquiry must dig deep and take into account how we have failed Indigenous women and girls and how violence against them is perpetuated in our society.”
