BCFED outlines budget priorities for working people

Vancouver – President of the BC Federation of Labour, Irene Lanzinger, will present to the Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Services this morning.

“We are calling on the BC government to champion a budget that levels the playing field for working people,” said Lanzinger. “Our submission focuses on the core building blocks of a healthy economy: strong employment standards laws, a balanced Labour Code, and fair compensation for workers injured or made ill on the job.”

Lanzinger presents the BCFED’s submission, Level the Playing Field: Investing in Workers to Build a Strong Economy, to the Select Standing Committee at 9:05 am, at UBC Robson Square, 800 Robson St, Room C150.

Lanzinger noted that after 16 years of a BC Liberal government, there is a lot of work to do to level the playing field in BC. “Many areas are desperately in need of re-investment. We are urging the government to remember that at the core of a strong economy are workers – and the government has an obligation to ensure they are treated fairly and that their rights are protected.”
