Remember the dead - Fight for the living: Workers' Day of Mourning, April 28 - BCFED
Location:

East of the front steps of the BC Legislature, 501 Belleville Street, Victoria

Please join the BC Federation of Labour at the BC Legislature (east of the front steps) in Victoria for a ceremony on April 28th, the National Day of Mourning for workers killed, injured, or made ill by their work.

In 2025, 185 deaths were reported to the Workers' Compensation Board. Of these, 85 were killed on the job, and 100 died due to occupational disease including 35 from asbestos-related illnesses. For the past two decades, these numbers have stubbornly remained at about this level.

The National Day of Mourning remembers and honours workers who have suffered death, injury or illness because of their work. And it renews our shared commitment to protect workers by improving health and safety in the workplace. Next Tuesday at the legislature, we mourn for the dead and commit to continue the fight for the living.
