BCFED respectfully urges Her Honour the Lieutenant Governor to invite John Horgan to form government

In the aftermath of the confidence vote defeat of Premier Christy Clark in the Legislature today, BC Federation of Labour President Irene Lanzinger has written the province’s Lieutenant Governor, the Honourable Judith Guichon, respectfully urging her to invite BC NDP leader John Horgan to form a new government for British Columbia.

“Significant decisions are now resting on your shoulders in terms of deciding the path forward for our province,” Lanzinger wrote “We believe that the correct path—and one supported by so many British Columbians—is to invite BC NDP leader John Horgan to form government.”

Noting that the vast majority of British Columbians—1.2 million electors—voted for change in the May election, Lanzinger says the pact reached by the BC NDP and BC Greens in late May represents the common ground required to meet a confidence test.

“We believe that the agreement signed by both parties represents a stable, viable and long-term partnership that provides an historic opportunity for lasting and profound change in our province. And profound change is what working people urgently need,” Lanzinger wrote.

“We are heartened by this agreement between the BC NDP and the BC Green parties that will provide for a government that has so much potential to make lives better for working people in BC.”
