VANCOUVER-President Irene Lanzinger and Secretary-Treasurer Aaron Ekman were re-elected for two-year terms to lead the 500,000-member BC Federation of Labour.

“Together with Aaron, I’m proud to be able lead a dynamic and progressive organization with so many members who share a deep commitment to make life better for all working people,” says Lanzinger.

“We extend our thanks to the many activists who work hard every day to build our movement,” says Ekman. “We’re committed to working together to provide the leadership to make the BCFED even stronger in the years ahead.”

Lanzinger is a high school science teacher who is a past president of the BC Teachers’ Federation. A former union organizer, Ekman is the northern regional coordinator with the BC Government and Service Employees’ Union. Both were first elected to their respective positions in 2014.

The elections took place this morning at the Federation’s 57th convention in Vancouver. Yesterday the Federation launched its Better Can Happen Here campaign to bring much-needed political change to BC in next May’s provincial election. Details about the campaign are at TogetherForBC.ca.
