BC Federation of Labour elects new President and Secretary-Treasurer

VANCOUVER – Following a vote of more than 2,200 delegates at the BC Federation of Labour convention, Irene Lanzinger has been elected President. Irene is the first woman to ever hold that position.

Irene Lanzinger received 1,137 votes, and Amber Hockin received 1,080 votes.

Irene Lanzinger, a former teacher and past president of the Vancouver Teachers’ Association and BC Teachers’ Federation, has been the BC Federation of Labour’s Secretary-Treasurer for the last four years.

Aaron Ekman was elected to the position of Secretary-Treasurer.

Aaron Ekman, founding president of the North Central Labour Council that represents more than 12,000 union members across northern BC, is currently a Regional Coordinator with the BCGEU.

The BC Federation of Labour represents over 500,000 members from affiliated unions across the province, working in every aspect of the BC economy. It has a long and proud history of fighting for the rights of all working people for a safe workplace and fair wages.
